Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 200g Goldband Margarine
  • 1/4 cup Ice Cold Water
  • 4 medium apples
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ⅓ cup of water
  • I tbsp cinnamon
  • I tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cloves
  • 2 tsp all-purpose flour/corn starch
  • Lemon Juice

Directions

In a bowl, mix the flour and Goldband margarine and rub with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add in the water and flour mix to a firm dough. Knead for a few seconds.
Cover in sling film and chill in the fridge
Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a saucepan, add the apples, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Stir together until macerated. Add in the water, and flour and stir occasionally until the apples are softened and the mixture thickens. Divide the shortcrust pastry into two and roll each of them out. Place one of the rolled-out pastry onto a pie dish and press down.
Add in the Apple Filling and evenly spread it out. Cover with the second piece of shortcrust pastry and tighly seal the edges (cut out the excess if need be). Poke a few holes at the top of the pie, brush with egg was and sprinkle a little bit of sugar. Bake in a preheated oven for 40 minutes at 175C.
Serve warm with a scoop of Ice Cream and enjoy.
